Reflective Essay: Enhancing Writing Capabilities via Genre Exploration and Collaborative Study

Throughout the duration of this course, I have accomplished multiple objectives that have significantly enhanced my writing and communication skills. Writing an opinion piece about the album review of “We’re All Alone in This Together,” creating a TikTok video and listicle about album reviews, and developing a genre guide on how to write an album review have all contributed to my development as a writer. In addition, the collaborative nature of the course and the recognition and use of linguistic differences as valuable resources have contributed to my development of a rhetorical sensibility.

Enhancing my strategies for reading, drafting, revising, editing, and self-evaluation has been one of the most significant outcomes of this course. By interacting with a variety of texts and sources, I have learned to approach each stage of the writing process with intention and concentration. Actively reading a variety of materials, such as op-eds, TikTok videos, listicles, and genre guides, has increased my knowledge of various genres, mediums, and rhetorical situations. This has allowed me to balance my own writing objectives with the needs of specific audiences.

In addition, the collaborative and social aspects of the course have contributed significantly to my writing development.
